Susan Boyle revealed she has Asperger’s, a form of autism. The 52-year-old was diagnosed last year but has waited until now to reveal the news.
Boyle was incorrectly diagnosed as a child and is now “relieved” to know what’s really wrong. "I was told I had brain damage. I always knew it was an unfair label. Now I have a clearer understanding of what's wrong and I feel relieved and a bit more relaxed about myself,” said Boyle according to NYDailyNews.
Boyle also told the Observer newspaper, "Asperger's doesn't define me. It's a condition that I have to live with and work through, but I feel more relaxed about myself. People will have a much greater understanding of who I am and why I do the things I do,” according to Fox News.
Boyle first rose to fame after performing “I Dreamed a Dream” on Britian’s Got Talent in 2009 and will make her big screen debut in the holiday movie The Christmas Candle.
