T.V. dads have graced the miniature screens of our homes for decades. Series after these fictional fathers crack the dorkiest jokes, tell the funniest stories, and give the best heartwarming dad advice. T.V. dads always have a way of creating sweet endearing scenes no matter how tough their character is portrayed.
In modern television, T.V. dads have been even more influential. No longer are they away at work everyday while mom is at home tending to the kids. Television dads, much like real dads are portrayed as involved and caring parents. Despite the change in roles, T.V. dads maintain the comic relief of our favorite fictional families. Though their fathering techniques may vary, the best T.V. dads all bring something special to the dinner table and we can’t help but adore them for it. So here it is, an ode to the countless dads that live within our screens. Though we know there’s even more magical men out there, the top 10 dads have arrived.
10)Alan Matthews, Boy Meets World
Alan Matthews always provided solid advice to his kids Eric, Cory and Morgan. He even made Shawn feel welcome as part of the family. Let’s not forget how he named his sporting goods store after his sons. Good guy. Plus we’ll get to see him again as a grandfather in the soon-to-be spin-off Girl Meets World.
9)Frank Reynolds, Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Frank Reynolds isn’t your typical loving father, but he does express it in other ways. Frank is always down to get in on the gang’s shenanigans, often financing any ridiculous ventures they decide to explore. Frank is also innovative, his wine in the can invention was something of dreams.
8)Danny Tanner, Full House
Danny Tanner embodies the perfect, loving father. After losing his wife, Danny was able to raise his daughters successfully alongside Jesse and Joey. Danny was always gentle and kind. What a sweetheart.
7)Burt Hummel, Glee
Burt Hummel is an inspirational dad, despite his manly exterior he is never afraid to access his sensitive side especially when it comes to his son Kurt. Burt’s undying support for Kurt is heartwarming. He’s never afraid to shed a tear, and we can’t forget his dancing abilities to “Single Ladies.”
6)Cameron Tucker, Modern Family
Cameron Tucker is a wonderful father and a glorious human. Cameron’s extravagance filters into his fathering techniques and I’m obsessed with him. Sure, he may get a little clingy (like carrying Lily around on his shirt) but his devotion to Lily and Mitchell is darling.
5)Cliff Huxtable, The Cosby Show
Dr. Huxtable is a wise cracking dad full of love and doctorly wisdom. Cliff Huxtable has a way of joking with his kids in order to get them to do the right thing. Everything about him makes him a fantastic father, especially those legendary sweaters.
4)Eddard Stark, Game of Thrones
If you’re looking for a courageous, justice fighting, strong dad, Eddard Stark is just your man. Stark was extremely protective of his family, and has a kind heart despite his tough exterior. Stark was sensitive to animals, and never stop fighting for what was right. Eddard was a good man.
3)Michael Bluth, Arrested Development
Michael Bluth is basically a dad to his entire family, including his own mother. Michael’s tolerance for his family is admirable enough, yet he still manages to maintain his loving role to his namesake, George Michael who he might possibly consider his best friend.
2) Eric Camden, 7th Heaven
Eric Camden is a pillar of morality. A minister at a local church, Eric specialized in guiding troubled teens towards righteousness. Every episode included some sort of moral issue that the family dealt with, and Eric was always there to direct his kids on the right path.
1)Phil Dunphy, Modern Famiy
Phil Dunphy is the ultimate dad. He has jokes, he has wit, and he has a heart that refuses to quit. Phil Dunphy never fails to pull on my heart strings during every episode of Modern Family. He is extremely in touch with his emotions and everything he does literally kills me with laughter. I want to both have him as my own husband, and be adopted into his family.
