AMC's The Walking Dead is no stranger to shocking their audiences and leaving fans with cliff hangers, but this mid-season finale shocked audiences with content and in TV ratings.
The Walking Dead mid-season finale had over 12.1 million viewers. According to Nielsen estimates, “Dead” averaged a 6.1 rating in adults 18-49 and experienced an increase from all time season low rating last week. The two episodes leading up to the mid-season finale had brought in lower numbers than normal for the show.
Variety added that the fall episodes of Walking Dead averaged 13 million viewers and is still the number one primetime cable television show but these episodes did not feature the main Dead cast.
The hit TV show has been experiencing an increase in ratings with every mid-season or season finale since season one. Entertainment Weekly added that season four is averaging 13 million viewers, up 29 percent from the first half of season three.
The after show Talking Dead also broke records with six million viewers tuning in.
Dead is set to return in February to AMC, with the last eight episodes in season four.
