Will Ferrell finally got to meet the man that inspired his take on his character Ron Burgundy in Anchorman 2. Ferrell met anchor Mort Crim at Sunday’s premiere of the movie.
The former WDIV-TV anchorman was targeted by the media once Ferrell mentioned during interviews that a clip of Crim inspired the character of Ron Burgundy. Since then Crim has been photographed by Esquire magazine and interviewed on Piers Morgan Live.
Crim lives in Jacksonville, Fla. He and his wife were invited to the event at the Beacon Theatre where he got to meet the actor. “I walked up to him at the party that went on afterward,” Crim said Monday according to USA Today. “He recognized me. I stuck my hand out and said, ‘Will, it’s nice for you to get to meet me.’ ”
According to the Detroit Free Press, Crim also spoke to Adam McKay, director of both Anchorman films. McKay lived in Philadelphia when Crim was an anchor there, quite possibly another reason Crim became the inspiration behind Burgundy.
So what exactly did Crim think of Anchorman 2?
“I thought the movie was far superior to the first one. And I loved the first one. This one does such a great job of parodying the drift of TV news into sensationalism and entertainment.”
