Fans of Black Sails will be able to catch their favorite pirate drama soon. The show, set to air on the Starz network, will premiere Jan. 25.
The series celebrates the world of Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island.Black Sails stars Toby Stephens as Captain Flint, according to the The Hollywood Reporter. It follows Flint and other rough and tumble pirates 20 years before Treasure Island takes place. Black Sails, currently enjoying success on the Starz network, is the brainchild of executive producer Michael Bay. Black Sails is Bay’s first project for the small screen. He is previously known for directing the movie, Transformers.
Bay told Variety, “I thought it was pipe dream. A lot of TV has come my way and I haven’t wanted to do it. … I’m thinking like, ‘This will never get made [laughs]. Let’s try it, but it will never get made.’ And then, all of a sudden, we’re sitting in a meeting and (Starz CEO Chris Albrecht) is sitting right across from me and we’re like, ‘We want to make it.’”
Black Sails will air Saturdays at 9 p.m. on Starz.
