In this episode of House of Lies, Marty has a confusing meeting with Roscoe's new crush, Lex. Jeannie makes some power moves at Galweather Stearn to win an account with the Department of Defense. And finally, Sarah announces to Doug she wants them to have a baby, and Clyde witnesses Monica push a junior analyst a bit too far.
The episode begins with Marty attending a self-help seminar that turns into a meaningless one night stand with the beautiful speaker. While sleeping, he has another dream another about Jeannie but this time Roscoe is in this one. The two die in strange ways while in an old-car-junkyard. In this episode, Marty has to continue to deal with his feelings for Jeannie and his son’s sexuality.
When Marty gets home, Roscoe tells him that he is interested in someone on the basketball team. When Marty plays a game of pick-up with Roscoe and Lex, Marty discovers that Lex is a she. In the other parts of the episode, Clyde wants out. Monica is ruthless, mean and just nasty. Clyde is continually called a rapist. Monica calls for an all-nighter and gathers Clyde and two junior analysts to help keep the Colossal Foods account. Then one of the analysts stabs Monica with a fountain pen.
Meanwhile, Jeannie and Doug are trying something new. Sarah tells Doug that she is off her birth control because she wants kids while Doug really does not. It is implied that he may hate kids. Jeannie, on the hand, has underhandedly taken an account with the Dept. of Defense by persuading Julianne that the man in charge of that account hates her (Julianne). Julianne cares enough to take him off of the account and she is considering Jeannie for it.
This episode was another solid episode. However, the season is starting slow. There are few things in this episode that will build up to something better. Marty’s and Jeannie’s plan to play Colossal Foods and Free Range against one another appears to blow up in Marty’s face. By adding his issues with understanding his son and his business, Marty has a few things to worry about. Jeannie is slowly turning into Marty. At the moment, I really want to see how Clyde gets away from Monica’s firm because she will be back to haunt him.
