The Academy Award nominations have been announced and the categories are filled with talent. From Wolf of Wall Street to Dallas Buyers Club this has been an amazing and powerful year for cinema.

Even with so much talent, it is hard to not recognize that a few films have not deserved the recognition and nominations they deserved. From Disney’s Saving Mr. Banks to a best actor nomination for Tom Hanks playing real life Captain Richard Phillips, these missing nominations seem like a slight oversight.

Another shock came when Fruitvale Station did not receive any nominations. Earlier in the Oscar season, Michael B. Jordan seemed like a lock for a best actor nomination.

5. Saving Mr. Banks

Disney handcrafted this film to at least be nominated for an Oscar. Tom Hanks playing the role of Walt Disney and Emma Thompson. Shockingly neither Hanks nor Thompson got the recognition they deserved for their work in this telling of how Mary Poppins came to be on the silver screen.

4. Captain Phillips

Tom Hanks deserved an Oscar nomination for his work of portraying Captain Richard Phillips. The best actor category was simply to full this year for Hanks to receive the nomination that he very much deserved.

Prisoners had receive much Oscar buzz early in the season but closer to the nominations buzz started to slow down. Both Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal showed amazing talent and passion for their craft in this film.

1. Fruitvale Station

Fruitvale Station is another example of how truly packed the best actor category is this year for the Oscars. Michael B. Jordan was simply outstanding and really brought the story of Oscar Grant alive on the big screen. This movie was not only timely but also extremely powerful. Ryan Coogler and Jordan both deserved nominations for their work on this film.
