New York Yankee third baseman Alex Rodriguez sued Major League Baseball and the Players Association on Monday, hoping to get his suspension overturned. Arbitrator Fredric Horowitz reduced Rodriguez’s drug suspension from 211 games to 162 games on Saturday.
The lawsuit alleges that Horowtiz showed partiality, and the Payers Association violated its job of fairly representing Rodriguez, according to the New York Daily News. Rodriguez’s lawyers say that he was unfairly prosecuted by MLB and Commissioner Bud Selig. Horowitz’s report has serious evidence that Rodriguez used performance-enhancing drugs over several years. Rodriguez has denied doing any performance-enhancing drugs numerous times.
CBS’s 60 minutes did a report on the Rodriguez case on Sunday. In 60 Minute’s report, Biogenesis clinic founder Anthony Bosch, who is Rodriguez’s main accuser, talked about Rodriguez doing performance-enhancing drug for years, claiming that Rodriguez did injections, blood draws, testosterone-laced “gummies” that Rodriguez ingested in the dugout and numerous steroids, human-growth hormones, insulin , and supplements that Rodriguez took, the Daily News notes. Bosch also said that he injected Rodriguez with the drugs himself occasionally.
Rodriguez made Horowitz’s decision public as part of his lawsuit, according to the Associated Press. He hopes that the court throws out Horowitz’s decision. It will be interesting to see what the court does with Horowitz’s decision. If the suspension remains what it is now, then Rodriguez’s career might be over.
