The New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez has been suspended for 162 games.
According to CBS New York, independent arbitrator Fredric Horowitz ruled Saturday that Rodriguez would not serve the original 211 game suspension that was handed down last summer, but rather 162 games for his involvement in Baseball's Biogenesis scandal.
The hefty suspension is the longest ever for a player in the history of Major League Baseball and will keep A-Rod out the entire season.
The ruling also includes the 2014 postseason.
Twelve players previously accepted 50-game suspensions related to the Biogenesis investigation, including Milwaukee Brewers star Ryan Braun, who is serving a 65-game ban.
The Yankees third baseman has maintained his innocence in the investigation after his admitted steroid use while with the Texas Rangers.
ESPN has reported that Rodriguez has vowed to fight the decision in federal court.
"The number of games sadly comes as no surprise, as the deck has been stacked against me from day one," Rodriguez said in his statement.
