Amanda Knox is speaking out about her guilty verdict being upheld in Italian court on Thursday. She sat down with ABC’s Good Morning America on Friday morning to shed some light into how she’s feeling about the 28 1/2 –year prison sentence she received.
"It really hit me like a train," she told Robin Roberts. "I did not expect this to happen. I really expected so much better from the Italian justice system. They found me innocent once before."
ABC News notes Knox, 26, was clearly emotional throughout the interview, calling it “not right and not fair.”
"I will never go willingly back to the place where … I’m going to fight this to the very end,” she said.
On Thursday, an Italian court upheld Knox and her ex-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito’s guilty verdict, which was overturned in 2011. She was set free on a successful appeal, so she’s currently back in Seattle with her family.
However, she told Roberts she will “never willingly” go back to Italy. She revealed she even had her lawyer send a letter to the family of the late Meredith Kercher, who she maintains she did not murder.
“It's in the mail. Mainly I just want them to know that I really understand that this is incredibly difficult, that they’ve also been on this never ending thing and when the case has been messed up so much, like a verdict is no longer consolation for them," she explained.
Knox also said of her innocence, “I'm going to do everything I can to prove it."
