The twelfth episode Go To Hell was by far the best - maybe the bloodiest too - in Coven. Though I've been a fan of the season overall, I've still been bombarded by slow pacing and seemingly in-sequential plot lines, but this episode was structured beautifully -- and a ton of witch stuff went down! Here are the top 6 things that happened:
6. The Seven Wonders of Witchcraft Revealed
The beginning of the episode beautifully opens up with a black and white film of witches performing the Seven Wonders of Witchcraft accompanied by Chopin's Nocturne in E Flat Major, Op. 9 No. 2. The Seven Wonders include everything from telekinesis to pyrokinesis, and though all witches possess some of these powers, the Supreme possesses all. Next episode, the finale, will have each witch performing the seven wonders as the new Supreme of the Coven rises.
5. Delphine's new job
How ironic that Delphine (Kathy Bates) found her former home, went on a tour of her extravagant mansion and of the torture chamber, only to murder the tour guide and take her spot? Delphine tried to rewrite her own history - or more so redeem herself and her name - by telling tour groups about what a great leader she was and how she was just misunderstood. Her new job is short-lived though when Queenie (Gabourey Sidibe) pays her a little visit and stabs her in the heart in the torture chamber and leaves her to die.
4. Fiona's fake plan
First Fiona (Jessica Lange) tells Queenie she's getting tired of being the Supreme, then she gets her portrait painted (something all Supreme's do to leave their legacy behind), then she gives her eye-less daughter Cordelia (Sarah Paulson) her mother's necklace. But the usually weak Delia was able to see through Fiona in a vision of Fiona turning on the Coven and murdering everyone as she flees the country on her own. That's right, she even betrays Axeman (Danny Huston) after using him to get her passport, as Delia cruelly points out to him. Poor guy's such a softie, and had a hard time absorbing the news.
3. Delphine and Marie 'go to hell'
Just when I thought there would be a clear and final winner in the elongated Delphine/Marie (Angela Bassett) war, who knew that both immortals would end up in hell? After Queenie seeks out the creepy voodoo master Papa Legba, she convinces him that Marie won't be able to hold up her end of the deal anymore since she was cut in 50 pieces. So what does Papa Legba do? He locks both Delphine and Marie up in the chamber of hell for eternity, where Marie is forced to torture young, innocent girls. Hell surely just got a bit more complicated with these two enemies forced to be with each other for eternity, but I thought it was a perfect end for their characters' fate because they both got what they deserved.
2. Witch fight!
Delia stepped up once again to dig up clues about Misty's (Lily Rabe) disappearance, and she was able to locate her in the cemetery where Madison (Emma Roberts) left her to die. However, Queenie used her powers to break open the coffin and revive her. And oh, was it good to see Misty again! Not just because she's my favorite character, but because I think we all just wanted to see Madison get her karma. Misty storms into the scene where Madison is catching up with Zoe (Taissa Farmiga) and Kyle (Evan Peters) who returned from Florida because Zoe thinks she's the next Supreme, Misty first slapping Madison, then resorts to punching and kicking her - literally beating her up. I'm not fond of characters getting beat up in movies or TV, but I felt like cheering Misty on since Madison SO deserved those punches.
However, in the midst of the cat fight, Axeman tries to murder all of the witches...but did he really think he had a shot? The witches attack him with a slew of kitchen knives (well, all but Delia and Myrtle), stabbing him to death, which allowed us to say bye bye to Axeman for good.
1. Axeman murders Fiona...who's the next supreme?
The most shocking event came when the witches notice blood in the corridor. Not just any blood - but the Supreme's itself - as sensed by Delia. She is able to see what happened - that she was murdered by Axeman! He obviously looked into what Delia told him about Fiona betraying him, and discovered the truth that she had booked a ticket for just her to get away. Axeman had strong feelings for Fiona - after all, he spent most of his life watching over her - only to have his heart broken and to literally break hers too by chopping her to death. Oh, and feeding her to the gators!
Now the question remains, and will be discovered in the finale...
Who is the next Supreme?
The witches will perform the Seven Wonders of Witchcraft, and to me, it looks like everyone has a fair shot. I'm really curious to see how this finale is going to play out because let's face it, American Horror Story never ends happy.
