From Illumination EntertainmentDespicable Me 2 is also in the running for best animated film. Although a cute movie, critics have already claimed it to not be as charming as the first film in the series.
Japanese animated film, “The Wind Rises” is one of the nominees. Classic manga style animation by Hayao Miyazaki (who won an academy award for Spirited Away) is a top contender for the win as well.
French 2012 animated film, Ernest & Celestine is nominated this year. Released in the U.S. in 2013 and is based off of popular children’s books.
All five nominees are deserving of the title but it will be interesting to see who takes the title, whether it will be big name Disney or one of the other animated treasures.
