Bill Cosby, who expressed interest in returning to television in November, will star in a new family comedy that will air on NBC. The network was home to the iconic Cosby Show.
Cosby is developing the project with Tom Werner, whose Carsey Werner produced The Cosby Show. The legendary comedian will star as the patriarch of a family and will focus on familiar Cosby territory of marriage and family, notes The Hollywood Reporter.
Deadline, which first confirmed the news, reports that Cosby has already started talking with writers. NBC is developing the show out of the usual pilot season.
Cosby first spoke about the project in November during an interview with Yahoo TV. The 76-year-old said the project “would [satisfy] the people who have come to me in public places and said, 'Can't you put something on that I can watch?'”
Cosby said he wants to give a network a “wonderful” show, adding, “Because there is a viewership out there that wants to see comedy, and warmth, and love, and surprise, and cleverness without going into the party attitude.”
In addition to The Cosby Show, Cosby starred on CBS’ Cosby and created Fat Albert. He also recently returned to stand-up with a Comedy Central special.
