Brooklyn Nine Nine returned tonight with its 13th episode, ‘Pontiac Bandit’. The show opens with last shows “hero” ‘Detective Boyle,’ played by Joe Lo Truglio, strolling in knelt on a scooter. He was shot in the butt in the previous episode saving Rosa’s, played by Stephanie Beatriz, life. He immediately begins making messes and struggling to do things on his own not accepting the help everyone is offering. Eventually Captain Holt, played by Andre Braugher, distracts him in an effort to keep him out of the way politely.
Meanwhile, Peralta, played by Andy Samberg, butts in on Rosa’s interrogation of Craig Robinson portraying a criminal she had been chasing for a month over 12 counts of identity theft. Peralta wanted information about “The Pontiac Bandit”, a criminal Peralta refers to as his nemesis and had been chasing for eight years. The illusive car thief, Bill AKA The Pontiac Bandit, had stolen upwards of 230 Pontiacs that were known of.
Since Robinson was Rosa’s catch Holt leaves the decision in her hands. Without hesitation, Peralta says, “One thousand push-ups.” The smile on Rosa’s face and instant agreement left Holt more than confused. The two explained that is was a pact from the academy that basically meant ‘Trust Me.’
The first lead Robinson takes them to, is his mother’s house were Peralta and Rosa agree to un-cuff Robinson and lie to his mother about their identities. Without discussion about who to say they were, Robinson tells his overly sweet mother that Rosa was his girlfriend and the Peralta was his assistant called ‘Mangy Carl’. Robinson doesn’t stop there he further lies to his mother that ’Carl’ had once been a homeless man but that with the charity Robinson works with provides jobs for homeless white people.
Back at the station, the rest of the squad are trying to stomach the disgusting choice of lunch made by the wounded Boyle, who has absolutely disgusting taste in food. They also attempt to humor his increasingly exaggerated near death gunshot wound.
The next scene is the setup to meet with the “Pontiac Bandit”. Rosa, Robinson, and Peralta all head out to the meet, but only after Peralta gets and more ‘criminal’ style makeover in a ridiculous white suit. Rosa is none too thrilled with the getup Peralta picks.
Gina, played by Chelsea Peretti, had bailed out on her coworkers at the station. She was hiding out for Boyle. Terry Crews playing Sergeant Terry Jeffords and Melissa Fumero as Amy Santiago seek her out to scold her for her lack of compassion.
Peralta, Rosa, and Robinson wait for their lead to show. When he shows he tells Robinson that he won’t deal directly with strangers, Rosa and Peralta. They have to come up with a new plan.
The show then cuts to Holt’s office where he is introducing the two puppies he’s been trying to pawn off on anyone who will take them; his current target being Terry, though he refuses kindly calling his home a mad house.
Back with the crack team Rosa and Peralta they are waiting for the location of the meeting in which Robinson is expected on time and alone. Rosa, no longer agreeing with the way the plan is going refuses and then calls “one thousand push-ups.” Peralta then tells Rosa he has to break the pact. The show then jumps to the two detectives dressed in tactical gear prepping Robinson for his role to wear the wire. Rosa looks very displeased and Robinson is visibly nervous still inside the police van.
The station is becoming even more unbearable for everyone to the point that Santiago joined Gina upstairs where it was safe from Boyle.
In the next scene Robinson heads in and begins to ramble. Rosa calls it and the team moves in to find it was a set up on them for Robinson to run. Peralta finally figures out that Robinson was the Pontiac Bandit the entire time. The two discuss over the wire how Robinson threw Peralta off his trail, tricked them, and escaped.
When they cut to the next scene Santiago and Gina had, at some point, been joined by Terry, Sculley, and Hitchcock. They were all found up stairs by Holt who, while scolding them, is holding two adorable puppies one in each arm. Luckily, the dogs gave Terry a good idea to solve their current Boyle problem.
Peralta and Rosa make up and joined forces on the Pontiac Bandit case. Peralta was, however, forced to do the push-ups.
