It is no secret that former American Idol runner up Clay Aiken has been said to be considering a possible run for Congress in 2014. Although no reports have been officially denied or confirmed, Aiken may have repudiated all suspicions in his supposed run for office.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the North Carolina native has personally denied any further desires to run for a Congressional position. Aiken reportedly informed a reporter at the WRAL North Carolina station that he was not going to run despite rumored accounts. WRAL Government Coverage posted the news on their twitter account in early January.
Reports regarding Aiken’s possible considerations for a bid arose throughout the same time-span that WRAL denied his contributions to the 2014 Congressional election. According to ABC News, the possible democratic official has also allegedly talked with representatives from multiple committees as well as the Hart Research firm known to be involved with President Obama’s past two campaigns.
The loveable yet nerdy vocalist became a household name in 2004 after becoming runner up to ultimate American Idol winner Ruben Studdard. Following his success in Season 2 of the popular talent competition, Aiken toured numerous times and went on to make his Broadway debut in the musical comedy Monty Python’s Spamalot. The southern crooner later appeared on Donald Trump’s The Celebrity Apprentice yielding second place once more.
Founder of The National Inclusion Project, Aiken’s foundation focuses on allowing children with disabilities to have a bigger voice in societal conditions. A possible motivation for the platinum-selling singer, being a stronger voice for those who do not have a greater say would make a congressional bid ideal. Although his intentions remain unknown, the reports by ABC News state that Aiken has until the end of February to make his decision.
