The Santa Barbara International Film Festival is awarding David O. Russell with the Outstanding Director Award.
According to The Wrap, Russell, who broke the Oscar record for most nominations for three consecutive films from any director, will be receiving a tribute at Arlington Theatre on Friday, Jan. 31.
The Los Angeles Times reports that Russell's recent hit, American Hustle received 10 Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, and nominations in all four acting categories.
Last year, Russell's previous hit, Silver Linings Playbook, also achieved Oscar nominations in all four acting categories. His 2010 hit, The Fighter also received Best Picture, Best Director, and two acting nominations.
"[Russell's] deeply personal trilogy, comprised of The Fighter, Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle, tap deeply at the core of the American dream where anyone should be guaranteed the opportunity of a second chance, of reinvention and triumph," Roger Durling, SBIFF executive director, said in a statement.
"He has the eye for the picture he wants to present and then does so, with an expertise that is as bold as it is a joy to watch," Durling added.
Cate Blanchett, Oprah Winfrey, Robert Redford, Emma Thompson, Martin Scorsese, and Leonardo DiCaprio are some of the other SBIFF honorees.
The Santa Barbara International Film Festival takes place from Jan. 31 to Feb. 9.
