Discovery's is trying out something new with their first scripted miniseries, Klondike. The miniseries opened to strong ratings, drawing in over 3.4 million viewers.

Klondike helped Discovery reach it's highest Monday ratings in history, Variety reported. 1.68 million fans between the ages of 25-54 tuned into the special miniseries.

A special episode of the hit show Gold Rush was the lead-in to Klondike and drew in about the same number of viewers as the scripted movie.

This scripted miniseries is based off of Charlotte Gray’s novel Gold Diggers.

Discovery has already said that it would be a fixed event, with no possibility of a Klondike sequel, even with these strong raiting numbers, The Hollywood Reporter added.

Klondike stars Richard Madden, Augustus Prew, Sam Shepard, Abbie Cornish and Tim Roth.

Even though Klondike is the first scripted effort from the Discovery Network, they have many more scripted films and project in the works including the 13th century Scotland project and the upcoming North and South.
