The Ellen DeGeneres show has been enjoying steady ratings in the United States and a variety of big name stars but now the show is will be able to be seen around the world, including in China.
Variety reported that Warner Bros. has reached an agreement with Sohu Video, an online video platform, to make The Ellen DeGeneres Show available for live streaming.
The shows will be available in China 48 hours after they air in the United States. This deal will be make The Ellen DeGeneres Show the first daily talk show to be aired in China from the U.S. The show will be featured with Chinese subtitles.
The LA Times reported that Sohu is very similar to that of Hulu or Netflix. The show will be available in an on-demand type of package.
Sohu chairman-CEO Charles Zhang, spoke about how he thought his type of talk show could appeal to the Chinese market. "Sohu offers Chinese Internet users a diversified portfolio of top-quality content, with a wide coverage of hot TV dramas, animation and now U.S. talk shows. The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ is one of the most well-known talk shows in the U.S., and we believe it could also have strong appeal and relevance with the Chinese audience," said Zhang.
Next up for DeGeneres will be hosting the Oscars.
