Flavor Flav pleaded not guilty to charges he received during a traffic stop earlier this month.
The Associated Press reports that Flavor Flav, real name William Drayton, was stopped earlier this month for speeding and driving without a license on his way to his mother's funeral in New York.
Drayton was stopped and ticketed on Jan. 9 after going 79 in a 55 mile per hor zone, and told to appear in court for his arraignment.
Drayton has had 16 former traffic violations that led to his suspended license. TMZ reports that Drayton told the judge that he has already cleared up all 16 violations. The judge released him on bail and Drayton is scheduled to return to court on Friday.
The rapper explained that he hopes the charges would be dropped.
"I'm hoping they would have a heart and dismiss it all because of the circumstances," Drayton said. "Because if it wasn't for me driving to my mother's funeral and being late getting to my mother's funeral, I wouldn't have been behind the wheel in the first place to get the charge."
He is currently charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon and child endangerment with a weapon in Las Vegas, where he currently resides, after threatening his girlfriend's 17-year-old son with a butcher knife during an argument.
After being released from jail, his terms included a requirement to stay out of trouble. This traffic incident can be considered a violation of his terms and can land him up to 12 years in prison.
