New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs announced that he is retiring on Thursday. He announced his retirement via Twitter.
After the game against the Dallas Cowboys in week 12, Jacobs experienced stiffness in his knee. He had surgery in mid-December because of the stiffness. Jacobs had a cartilage graft procedure, where he got new knee cartilage, according to NJ.com, CBS Sports reports.
Jacobs played in the NFL for nine seasons. Eight of those nine years were with the Giants. From 2005 to 2011 he played with the Giants, winning two Super Bowl championships. Last year he played for the San Francisco 49ers. He only played two games for them however because the 49ers suspended him for criticizing them on Twitter.
In his career Jacobs rushed for 5,094 yards and 60 touchdowns, according to ESPN. He also had four receiving touchdowns. Jacobs is the Giants all-time leader in rushing touchdowns, and ranks fourth in Giants history in rushing yards.
Jacobs isn’t the only Giant that is retiring. Giant’s offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride announced his retirement on Thursday as well. Jacobs best season came under Gilbride when he rushed for a career best 1,089 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2008.
