Girls star/writer/creator Lena Dunham and executive producer Judd Apatow are so tired of hearing questions about Dunham’s nudity on the show that the no longer can deal with it. When the show’s Television Critics Association Press Tour panel started off with a question about nudity, it defined the mood of the entire event.
One of the reporters at the event asked right away why Dunham is nude so much on the show and he said he didn’t get the point of it. “I feel like I'm walking into a trap where you go, 'Nobody complains about the nudity on Game of Thrones.' But I get why they're doing it. They're doing it to be salacious and titillate people. And your character is often naked just at random times for no reason,” the reporter said, notes TV Guide.
Dunham then responded, “It's because it's a realistic expression of what it's like to be alive, I think. And I totally get it if you're not into me. That's your problem.”
While that may have been enough for her, Apatow had to come up with his own response. “Do you have a girlfriend? Does she like you?” he said, noting that his girlfriend couldn’t possibly like him if he’s complaining about nudity. All that apparently put producer Jenni Konner in a “rage spiral.”
Next, Deadline reports that another reporter asked Dunham if she liked the characters she created. “Yeah, I love them. I love writing them,” she said. That was followed with talk about how the characters are usually put in terrible situations.
The other headline from the panel was that HBO did pick up Girls for a fourth season. Season three, which will debut music from Beck and Lily Allen, starts on Sunday night.
