Television watching is on the rise throughout the globe. A surprising study by a research institute called Eurispes revealed that Italians watch more television than viewers in any other country, except the United States.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Eurispes reported that the average Italian spent 4 more minutes in front of the television each day in 2013 compared to 2012. Their calculations reported that total average of 4 hours and 34 minutes a day. Eurispes said that an economic crisis in Italy plays a role in increased viewership. Also, in previous years, there has been an increase in smaller and more specialized channels.

Americans, however, are still in the lead with the number of hours clocked in front of the television set, enjoying the dramas, comedies, and reality shows available. Americans watch 4 hours and 53 minutes of television each a day, according to the study by Eurispes. Perhaps, Twitter is having an effect of increased viewership among Americans.

According to Variety, the Nielsen Twitter TV Ratings show the total Twitter activity relating to specific shows. With this information, networks and advertisers decide how to use Twitter to get Americans to tune-in to more TV.
