Former NFL running back Jahvid Best has filed a lawsuit against the National Football League and its helmet maker Riddell. Best suffered several concussions during his playing time that ended up causing him to retire from the league after just three seasons. Best has experienced many negative effects from these concussions and is seeking assistance from the NFL to pay for his future medical needs.
Best claims in his lawsuit that the NFL was aware of the risks associated with repetitive concussions but deliberately ignored and concealed that information, according to Sports Illustrated.
One of the main requests of this lawsuit is to set up a medical fund for Best to deal with future medical conditions he may deal with from the multiple concussions he has suffered while playing the game, according to ESPN.
According to Sports Illustrated, Best has suffered a total of five concussion in his playing career, two of which were suffered in college while playing football at Cal.
Best was selected in the first round of the 2010 draft by the Detroit Lions. He played in just 22 games in his short career due to his continuous trouble with concussions.
