There’s nothing like a little jury duty to keep your ego in check. Jared Leto reported to jury duty on Wednesday and by Thursday, he had woken up to discover he was nominated for an Academy Award for his critically-acclaimed role in Dallas Buyer’s Club.
After receiving a Golden Globe award on Sunday for his role as a transgender who’s HIV-positive, he’s now been given the holy grail of honors – an Oscar nod. Check out the full list of nominations here.
"Yesterday I was doing jury duty and today I got an Oscar nomination. Only in America,” he told ABC News.
The 42-year-old actor, who hasn’t made a film in six years due to focusing on his band 30 Seconds to Mars, called the part a “role of a lifetime.”
"It was an incredible thing to represent this group of people who largely are ignored,” he said. “It was an incredibly challenging time for a group of people who were with faced with an incredibly deplorable set of circumstances and they were fighting for their lives."
Dallas Buyer’s Club received six nominations, including Best Picture.
