Jenny McCarthy is responding to rumors that have surfaced claiming that her son, Evan, 11, doesn’t have autism. The View co-host has been a passionate advocate of autism awareness throughout her son’s life.
The report, stemming from an old interview from 2010 with Time Magazine, and recently reported by RadarOnline, states McCarthy’s son was initially not diagnosed with autism but rather Landau-Kleffner Syndrome.
In a long message on Twitter, McCarthy let her followers know she was taking the necessary legal actions to rectify this situation. In it, she calls the rumors “irresponsible and inaccurate.”
“Stories circulating online, claiming that I said my son Evan may not have autism after all, are blatantly inaccurate and completely ridiculous. Evan was diagnosed with autism by the Autism Evaluation Clinic at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Hospital and was confirmed by the State of California (through their Regional Center),” she wrote.
She continued on the source of the rumors, saying, “These stories cite a "new" Time Magazine interview with me, which was actually published in 2010, that never contained any such statements by me. Continued misrepresentations, such as these, only serve to open wounds of the many families who are courageously dealing with this disorder.”
Us Weekly notes McCarthy, 41, welcomed her son with ex-husband John Asher back in 2002 and she’s currently dating Donnie Wahlberg.
