Jenny McCarthy has spoken out in defense of her ex-boyfriend, Jim Carrey, after Shia LaBeouf attacked his parenting skills on Twitter.
It all started when Carrey was presenting at the Golden Globes on Sunday and joked about LaBeuf’s plagiarism scandal. “Dying is easy. Comedy is hard...I believe it was Shia LaBeouf who said that,” he said onstage.
Afterwards, LaBeouf, who recently said he would be retiring from the public eye, took to Twitter to slam Carrey. "At least I don't get arrested for indecency on major LA highways! Or abandon love child's," he wrote, posting a video of Carrey’s daughter Jane’s band, The Jane Carrey Band.
According to E! Online, McCarthy addressed it on The View on Tuesday and revealed she has become close friends with Carrey since their break-up and called him a “great father.”
“We dated for five years and I got to know his daughter, Jane, who is a lovely, lovely girl. It's completely uncalled for and wrong,” she said. “Jim is a great father. He loves Jane more than anything in the world. Shia did apologize and Jim did take it, but the whole thing is, do not bring our children into it."
LaBeouf has since apologized, tweeting “Jim Carrey states that he is deeply involved in his daughter's life—I accept that. Regret tweet on the matter. Apologies to both parents."
McCarthy is now dating Donnie Wahlberg.
