Josh Groban has gained worldwide success as a singer and musician known for his extreme range and well-kept fashion of the usual suit and tie. However, before becoming a public icon, Groban adorned a beggars fashion in Fiddler on The Roof.
Theatermania.com confirmed that when Groban was a high school student, he played the role of Tevye in the school’s production of the show. At 18 years old, Groban wowed audiences even then with his power-house voice.
According to Jewish Humor Central, the polished singer performed the role at the Los Angeles High School of the Arts. There, Groban was a member of the Musical Theatre Ensemble and, in turn, landed the leading role. It was only years after that Groban would become an international name.
Fiddler on The Roof tells the story of a traditional Jewish family and their journey through the trials and tribulations of prejudice, holding to the always adhered to tradition, and growing up and apart. Fiddler, for short, made its Broadway debut in 50 years ago in 1964 at the Imperial Theatre. Tevye is the father figure in the musical and is a constant throughout the production.
Groban became one of the number one selling albums in the United States in 2007 with many of his albums going multi-platinum. He is most known for songs like, “You Raise Me Up”, “The Prayer”, and “Believe” from the animated feature, The Polar Express.
