Jude Law has testified in the UK phone-hacking trial involving Rupert Murdoch's now-defunct News of the World tabloid and its two former editors Andy Coulson and Rebekah Brooks.
Law found out the name of the close relative who had been selling stories to the tabloid in court on Monday. He was testifying about a 2005 story that appeared in the tabloid exposing a telephone conversation he had with 007 actor Daniel Craig, who Law was confronting about an affair he had with his ex-fiance Sienna Miller.
While on stand, Law was passed a note with the name of his family member who had been selling stories on it. When asked when he first knew about it, he said "Today. I wasn't aware of that."
Reuters reports he also said of his phone conversation with Craig, "We had known each other many, many years. The conversation took on all sorts of turns.” When he was asked if he was involved in the story being printed in the tabloid he replied, "No. I would have been perfectly happy if that had never appeared."
Law acted as a witness on the stand for over an hour at London's Central Criminal Court. Both Coulson and Brooks are being accused of illegally intercepting phone records for stories that later appeared in the tabloid.
CBC reports Law also testified that after his 2001 Academy Award nomination, there was “an unhealthy amount of information" about his personal life in the press, and now he knows why.
