Katherine Heigl is making her return to the small screen in the NBC drama State of Affairs, in which she will play a CIA officer turned the President’s daily briefer. The pilot has been greenlighted after a bidding war between networks.
This will mark her return to television four years after leaving Grey’s Anatomy. Following the bidding war, NBC picked up the rights to the show, with Joe Carnahan writing, directing and executive producing.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, other executive producers include Alexi Hawley, Robert Simonds, Sophie Watts,Rodney Faraon, Henry Crumpton, Julia Franz as well as both Heigl and her Heigl and her mother Nancy Heigl.
After she left Grey’s in 2010, she starred in a string of films, some successes and some duds.
Daily Mail notes after starring in the successful 2007 film Knocked Up with Seth Rogen, she had another hit with 27 Dresses. However, 2012’s One For the Money didn’t fare as well, nor did The Big Wedding in 2013.
Back in September, a profile came out in THR that labeled Heigl as “difficult” to work with, citing insiders who have had issues with her.
"She can cost you time every single day of shooting," the source said. "Wardrobe issues, not getting out of the trailer, questioning the script every singly day. Even getting her deal closed at Warners was hard. She hit that point of 'no.'"
