Mark Wahlberg isn’t exactly known for starring in kid-friendly films, but the Oscar nominated actor is going to have to refrain from swearing when he hosts Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards in March.
The network announced that the Lone Survivor star will hosts the 27th annual award show, which lets kids pick their favorite stars in the worlds of music, movies and television. Each winner gets an orange blimp and many of them will have a hard time going home clean after getting slimed.
“We are thrilled to welcome a superstar like Mark Wahlberg as he takes the helm as our master of ceremonies at the biggest kid event of the year,” Russell Hicks, Nickelodeon’s President of Content Development and Production, said in a statement. “We can’t wait for him to host and have lots of slime-filled fun with Hollywood’s biggest stars and our audience.”
Wahlberg has been nominated for two Oscars, one as producer and another as actor. He was nominated for his supporting role in Martin Scorsese's The Departed and for Best Picture as co-producer on David O. Russell’s The Fighter. He also earned a Golden Globe nomination for his performance in The Fighter.
The Kids’ Choice Awards is as popular as ever. The Hollywood Reporter notes that 5.8 million viewers tuned in for last year’s show and there were a record 392 million votes.
Wahlberg can currently be seen in Lone Survivor. His other credits include Ted, The Other Guys, Pain & Gain and Boogie Nights.
