Christmas Day was a rough one for Doctor Who fans as they said goodbye to the 11th Doctor, Matt Smith. Smith has now moved on from the series but won best drama performance prize at the National Television Awards for his role as the Doctor.
Doctor Who also took home the honor of the best drama category.
Smith beat out Doc Martin's Martin Clunes, Call the Midwife's, Miranda Hart and Downton Abbey's Maggie Smith, for the win but was unable to attend the award show personally. Smith is currently working on a production of American Psycho on the West End stage, The Guardian reported.
His co-star Jenna Coleman and longtime Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat accepted the award in Smith's honor.
The Mirror reported that Smith did post a YouTube video thanking the audience for his award. Smith was described as being "little bit bouncy" in his acceptance speech.
