MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry makes a tearful public apology to Mitt Romney after making comments about his adopted African-American grandchild, Kiernan Romney..

The Wrap reports that Harris-Perry made the apology on Saturday's episode on the Melissa Harris-Perry show. While making her statement, she was brought to tears addressing the former Republican presidential candidate.

"I am deeply sorry that we suggested that interracial families are in any way funny, or deserving of ridicule," Harris-Perry said at the start of her show. "My intention was not malicious, but I broke the ground rule that families are off-limits. For that, I am sorry," she added.

According to TIME, in an episode last week, Harris-Perry posted a picture of the Romney family, and then Harris-Perry and guests began joking about the image.

"One of these things is not like the other, one of these things just isn't the same," guest Pia Glen sang.

Harris-Perry then joked about Kiernan Romney getting together with Kanye and Kim Kardashian's baby, North West, in the future.

"Can you imagine Mitt Romney and Kanye West as in-laws?" Harris Perry said.

"I think this picture is great. It really sums up the diversity of the Republican Party, the RNC. At the convention, they find the one black person," comedian Dean Obeidallah then said.

Perry-Harris took to her Twitter to apologize almost two days after the show aired, explaining that she meant no offense.

She ended her statement on Saturday's show explaining that the criticism she received helped to teach her and the show to be respectful to its audience.

"...we are dedicated to advocating for a wide diversity of families, it is one of our core principles," Harris-Perry said. "And I am reminded that when we do so, it must be with the utmost respect. We're genuinely appreciative of everyone who offered serious criticisms of last Sunday's program, and I am reminded that our fiercest critics can sometimes be our best teachers."
