NBC has decided not to move forward with its reboot of the classic series Murder, She Wrote, at least for the moment. The network could give the idea another shot at some point down the road.

On Tuesday, Deadline confirmed that NBC is not going to proceed with the new version, which was to star Oscar winner Octavia Spencer. The Oscar winning Help star would have played a role similar to Angela Lansbury in the original show, which originally aired on CBS. It was developed by writer Alexandra Cunningham and producer David Janollari and NBC had green-lit a pilot episode before deciding against it.

NBC will take a different angle if it still wants to go forward with a reboot of the beloved show. Spencer is no longer attached and can look into other projects.

When news of the reboot first surfaced in October, it got plenty of attention. LAnsbury even commented, saying that it should not be titled Murder, She Wrote.

If NBC does want to go forward, it would be a gamble. While CBS has had success with the Hawaii Five-0 reboot, NBC hasn’t had hits with reboots. This season, Blair Underwood starred in an Ironside remake, but that lasted jsut four episodes.
