Now that Paramount has revived its television unit, the studio is getting in high gear when it comes to singing talent to develop new projects. The studio has just hired Craig Brewer, the writer/director of 2005’s Hustle & Flow, to develop pilots.

Right now, the deal covers two pilots, which Brewer will write and develop, reports Deadline. The studio has worked with him before, since it released Hustle & Flow and his 2011 Footloose remake. He also directed Black Snake Moan and was an executive producer on the Katy Perry concert movie Part of Me.

According to TheWrap, Brewer’s next feature is also set up at Paramount and is called Gangster Princess of Beverly Hills.

“Craig’s ability to capture and authentically portray different cultural moments in time through his characters, narratives and singular musical taste make him one of the most inspired storytellers of this generation,” Paramount TV president Amy Powell said in a statement.

Paramount TV launched last summer and its first project will be a TV remake of 1990’s Ghost. The pilot is being written by Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinkner.
