Grey's Anatomy stars Patrick Dempsey and Ellen Pompeo have signed new two-year deals to stay on the long-running ABC drama.
If the show gets renewed, the two stars could be with the show through season 11 and 12, an ABC rep said to TheWrap. The news about Dempsey's return will likely make fans happy after there was speculation he was ready to move on with the show after some comments he made that sounded like maybe he was somewhat tired, but "not necessarily bored with" his role.
The show will likely be renewed as it continues to do fairly well for the alphabet network. Grey's pulled in a 2.7 in the 18-49 demographic and 8.4 million viewers for its December mid-season finale.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the hospital drama is ABC's third most-watched drama in total viewers, sitting behind Castle and Scandal.
Pompeo and Dempsey's deal will likely make things easier on the writers as they are the central couple of the show. Storylines have in the past required quick writing as contract talks have sometimes taken a long time.
One of the show's original castmembers, Sandra Oh, is preparing to finish her time with the show at the end of the current season.
