Eusebio, whose full name was Eusebio da Silva Ferreira, died at age 71. Eusebio was known as the best scorer at the World Cup in England in 1966.

Known as the “Black Panther,” Eusebio was idolized by the Portugese-speaking world and considered one of soccer’s greatest players, according to CNN.

Eusebio has a long and prestigious career. He was a valuable player to Portugal between 1964 through 1973. He won 10 league titles and five Portuguese cups. According to the Daily Mail , the forward scored 473 goals in 440 matches for Benfica, the Portuguese giants with whom he spent most of his career. They won the European Cup in 1962.

Eusebio was revered by his associates and his fans. A spokesman for Benfica said: “We have just received confirmation of the death of Eusebio. It's a very sad day for all of us.” Eusebio died of a heart attack in the early hours of Sunday morning.

He had been struggling with his bad health for some time and was hospitalized in 2012.
