BBC's Sherlock is a hit across the world, with high ratings in the United States, China and the U.K., the modern day retelling of the Sir Author Conan Doyle is unstoppable.

Sherlock stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as John Watson.

Last night Sherlock returned to the United States with the first eposide of season three airing on PBS but the U.K. is already on the final eposide of season three, "His Last Vow." "His Last Vow" drew in over 8.8 million viewers which was 32.1 per cent share of the viewing audience at the time, Metro reported.

Steven Moffat, co-created of Sherlock is still in shock over the success of the show. "It isn’t supposed to be like this, This show, which we all thought would be our vanity project destined for 3 million in the ratings and possibly an award from an obscure European festival, has become a barnstorming international phenomenon," said Moffat.

The first eposide in season three had over 9.2 million viewers. Which is one of the largest premiere ever in the U.K., The Hollywood Reporter added.

Both Cumberbatch and Freeman are set to return in the fourth season of Sherlock.
