One teen was killed and one was injured after gunfire broke out near an Atlantic City school.

According to the Associated Press, the shooting happened as students were exiting the Pennsylvania Avenue School on Wednesday afternoon.

There were plenty of people around that witnessed the shooting. One described what he saw to the Press of Atlantic City.

“One of them got on a bike, came right here, hit the kickstand, went to his pants and pulled out a gun,” said Thomas C. Green “Boom, boom, boom. It was something, I tell you. In broad daylight, too.”

Police have said that the 13-year-old was fatally shot in the chest. The other teen was shot in the leg, but will survive.

“My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims of today’s events,” Mayor Don Guardian said. “Any loss of life is always tragic, and I know our law enforcement agencies are working hard to determine what exactly happened.”

The motive for the shooting is still unknown. Investigators are combing through surveillance footage to see if they can identify any suspects.
