Amazon has signed an exclusive content licensing deal with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television to stream the upcoming CBS mini-series Extant on Amazon Instant Video. The series stars Halle Berry in her first regular television role.

CBS quickly moved forward with Extant in August, following the success of Under The Dome, which was also produced by Spielberg and based on Stephen King’s book. The series was a rare summer success and the eye network is hoping that Extant will do the same, especially since Berry boarded the project in October.

In a statement today, Amazon and CBS confirmed that, just like Under The Dome, Amazon Instant Video will be the exclusive streaming home of Extant. Episodes will be posted just four days after they air. They will be available for free for Amazon Prime users and can be seen on Kindle devices, the iPhone, XBox, Playstation and Wii.

“Our partnership with Amazon for Under the Dome helped build a creative, financial and marketing model for event television in the summer,” Scott Koondel, Chief Corporate Licensing Officer, CBS Corporation, said in a statement. “We look forward to using the same model for Extant, a series whose creative auspices, on-screen talent and intriguing concept is already generating great excitement.”

Extant is about a female astronaut who returns home after a year-long mission. She has to try to connect with her family again and her life also has an unforeseen impact on human history.

The streaming deal for Under The Dome was so successful that CBS renewed that deal for season two. You can check out our review of the first season here.
