The Bachelor star Juan Pablo Galavis has apologized for his recent comments directed towards gays, while ABC and producers have slammed his comments, but did not follow in A&E's footsteps and suspend or take action against him.
Pablo is barely two episodes into his stint on The Bachelor and he has already opened his mouth and made inappropriate comments during an ABC party. He was asked by journalist Sean Daly about the idea of gays ever being on the show, which he actually answered.
The single father said that he didn't believe that having gays on the show would set a "good example for kids to watch that on TV." He continued that he felt it would be too confusing. He then added that he felt gays were "more pervert[ed] in a sense."
According to Deadline, Pablo has come forward in two separate statements to apologize. His first statement was more general and he blamed his use of the word "pervert" because "English is my second language." He added that what he really meant was that "gay people are more affectionate and intense and for a segment of the TV audience this would be too racy."
The second statement was directed towards GLAAD and the gay community where Pablo said that he actually felt that gay couples are just as good parents and that everyone should be respected for who they are.
ABC, Warner Horizon and The Bachelor executive producers released their own statement saying that The Bachelor star's "comments were careless, thoughtless and insensitive."
