Sandra Bullock quickly gained film success in the 1990s. She appeared in films like Demolition Man (1993), Speed (1994), While You Were Sleeping (1995), which earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress and Hope Floats (1998). In the early 2000s, Sandra became comedy gold with her roles in Miss Congeniality (2000), earning her second Golden Globe nomination, and Two Weeks Notice (2002). Her acting took a more serious note in the commercially successful Crash in 2004.
Her biggest year was 2009, where she received another Golden Globe nomination for her role in the comedy The Proposal. That was three nominations and no wins until the box office hit The Blind Side came along. Bullock played Leigh Anne Tuohy, who, along with her husband, adopted an impoverished boy named Michael Oher. It follows Oher's story, leading up to him becoming a first-round pick in the NFL by the Baltimore Ravens. Bullock received a Broadcast Film Critics Association Award for Best Actress, a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role, a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award for Best Actress.
In 2013, Bullock starred opposite Melissa McCarthy in the most financially successful comedy of the year, The Heat. Bullock then starred in the box office hit Gravity, which became one of the highest grossing films of the year.
