There has always been powerful female friendships on television. Between Laverne and Shirley and Lucy and Ethel, TV produced the best examples of strong friendships. On current TV shows, the trend of girl bffs continues and have become more fun.
When picking the best female friends on television, it is important to look at the friendship on a deeper level. These can't be casual friends that hang out. The women on the list are practically family to their friend. There is no petty drama or meanness. It is only empowerment to each other. Well, there might be a little drama, they are women after all.
It was difficult finding just 10 friendships on television. Because of the incredible amount, I chose to only pick friendships that are currently showing. While Friends' Rachel and Monica had a great friendship, they didn't make the list because the show is no longer on. And no bros made the list either. TV is very good at creating friendships in general. The healthy girl relationships are what I am pointing out.
In the spirit of chicks before dicks, TheCelebrityCafe.com has compiled a list of TV's current top bffs.

Cece (Hannah Simone) and Jess (Zooey Deschanel) met as children. They stayed friends even when Cece became a model and Jess simply became a teacher.
Throughout New Girl, Jess and Cece have gone through plenty together. Jess attended Cece’s (failed) wedding and planned her bachelorette party. Cece offered to “junk-punch” Nick when she thought he cheated on Jess.
These gal pals’ friendship is defined by their overprotection of each other. Cece would never let any guys hurt Jess and is always there to help Jess with advice. Jess helps Cece by always making her feel great about herself and pushing her to higher levels.

9. Rachel and Santana, Glee
When Glee first began, Santana (Naya Rivera) and Rachel (Lea Michele) hated each other. They didn’t get along and Santana was constantly mean to Rachel. However, since moving to New York, the two have become closer than ever. When Rachel had a pregnancy scare, Santana was there. When Rachel’s boyfriend turned out to be a gigalo, Santana called in Finn to beat him up.
Santana and Rachel’s friendship lead to Michele and Rivera winning a People’s Choice Award for best gal pals. While Santana is still mean to Rachel, she does it in a loving way. With Kurt (Chris Colfer) as their mediator at points, their friendship looks like it will last in the long run.

8. Penny, Bernadette and Amy, The Big Bang Theory

It is a very unlikely friendship. There is Penny (Kaley Cuoco) who is pretty and not so smart. Then there is Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) who has a voice that could shatter windows. Finally, there is Amy (Mayim Bialik), who is just happy to have friends.
According to Amy, the girls are so close that their “menzies” are in sync. They met through their significant others, Sheldon, Leonard and Howard who is married to Bernadette. While these ladies have very little in common, they find a way to stay friends.

Max (Kat Dennings) and Caroline (Beth Behrs) met by working together. Max was a girl that worked all of her life. Caroline was someone who used to be rich and had to work for the first time. While the two originally didn't get along well, they are to the point that they've opened up a cupcake café together.
Max and Caroline are complete opposites. Because of that, they often clash and bicker. At the end of the day, Max would do anything for Caroline and Caroline would do anything for Max.

6. Lily and Robin, How I Met Your Mother
Lily (Alyson Hannigan) and Robin (Cobie Smulders) are not the mother in HIMYM but they are still best friends. Because the show is in its final season, the fans have gotten to see their friendship grow. While Lily has had a long term relationship with Marshall and Robin has had a couple of boyfriends and fiancés, the two have always leaned on each other for support and advice.
Last season, it was revealed that Robin couldn't have children. Instead of telling her fiancé first, she told Lily because she needed advice on how to tell her fiancé about it. The final season of the show is following Robin and Barney's (Neil Patrick Harris) wedding. Lily has always been there for Robin and just because Robin is getting married doesn't mean that it has to change.

Nothing brings girls together like death, blackmail, murder and student/teacher relationships. Aria (Lucy Hale), Emily (Shay Mitchell), Hanna (Ashley Benson) and Spencer (Troian Bellisario) were brought together when their mutual friend Alison (Sasha Pieterse). When Alison went missing, the girls drifted apart but were brought together again when A began blackmailing them.
While they do keep secrets from each other, they still stay close. No matter what has happened to the girls, they have stayed united. After learning that their friend, Alison, was alive they still took the opportunity to decide whether or not to trust her again. Of all of the girls on the list, the pretty little liars have gone through the most. Their friend came back from being "dead," they were charged with murder, they were and currently are being blackmailed and lots of people that they know are either crazy or have gotten murdered.

4. Temperence and Angela, Bones

Temperence (Emily Deschanel) and Angela (Michaela Conlin) are the perfect case of opposites attracting. Temperence, who has the nickname "Bones," prides herself on being rational. She focuses on the facts and on science. Angela is a free spirit. She is a painter and a dreamer. Although they are opposites, they still continue to be best friends. When Agent Booth rejected Bone's wedding proposal, Angela pressured him and had a hard time forgiving him. When Bones and Booth had a child together, she named the baby Christine Angela after her mother and Angela.
The two women have been close since the first episode of the show. Temperance is the one that got Angela the job at the Jeffersonian in the first place. When Bones' dad was on trial for murder, Angela refused to testify because she didn't want her friend's dad to go to jail. Because she didn't testify, Angela was held in contempt. She literally went to jail for her best friend.

2. Marnie, Jessa, Hannah and Shoshanna, Girls

These ladies are hipsters and best friends. What else could be better? Hannah (Lena Dunham) is an aspiring writer. Jessa (Jemima Kirke) has guy problems. Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet) is a bubbly college student. Marnie (Allison Williams) is the mature one. The differences between the girls is what makes them friends.
Sure, Hannah and Marnie did get in a fight that led to Marnie moving out but that doesn't matter. Friends fight. Sometimes it is the arguments that help bring two friends closer. When Marnie moved in with Jessa and Shoshanna, she became closer to them. And all of the crazy boy drama on the show just anchors the girls into becoming closer.

1. Meredith and Christina, Grey’s Anatomy
Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Christina (Sandra Oh) have been friends since the first episode. They consider each other to be their “person.” This statement dates back to when Christina needed to fill out her medical release forms and she put Meredith down as her emergency contact.
While neither of the girls are mushy about their friendship, they are always there for each other. And, instead of hugging or talking about their feelings, they simply dance it out.
