Director Danny Boyle is best known internationally for his films, but occasionally the Oscar winner delves into television in his native U.K. His latest TV effort is Babylon, a cop comedy pilot he directed for Channel 4.
The one-minute trailer just hit the web and gives a good idea of the plot. A police squad has experienced some setbacks with its public image (clearly people don’t like cops barging into their homes and yelling ‘F**K’), so they hire a public relations expert. She’s an American and had previously worked for a website, so now she has to adjust to the high-pressure world of police work.
Deadline notes that the cast includes Liz Garvey as the PR expert, along with James Nesbitt as Chief Constable Richard Miller. It was written by Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong. Boyle is an executive producer and directed the pilot.
According to Indiewire, the pilot airs on Feb. 9 and six more episodes will be filmed in the spring.
No U.S. deal has been struck yet, but with a name like Boyle attached, it’s likely that some network or streaming service would be interested in making it available here.
Boyle is best known as the director of films like Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire and 127 Hours. He also worked on the London Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony and recently directed Trance.
