On Tuesday, Criminal Court Judge Monte Watkins allowed Cory Batey to remove his GPS ankle monitor. Batey, 19, was one of four Vanderbilt football players arrested for the rape of an unconscious student last summer.
The one stipulation for removing the bracelet was that Batey must check in with his bonding agent once a week. Batey’s attorney, Worrick Robinson, argued that the bracelet should come off because it was unfair that he was the only player of the four to be ordered to wear one.
According to The Tennessean Robinson said, “Mr. Batey’s conduct has been good and lawful and he has done everything the court has asked him to do, so there was no reason to single him out as one of four defendants that might be a flight risk.”
The four ex-football players were charged with five counts of aggravated rape and two counts of aggravated sexual battery. According to WKRN, all four men pleaded not guilty and Batey along with Brandon Vandenburg will go on trial next August.
