White Sox sign manager Robin Ventura to extension

Robin Ventura, manager of the Chicago White Sox, agreed to a contract extension on Friday. There were no details enclosed though.

Ventura took over as the White Sox manager in the 2012 season and led them to an 85-win season where they finished in second place in the American League Central. They finished with only 63 wins in 2013 though, putting them in last place, according to ChicagoTribune.

Ventura's decline of an extension offer in 2012 led people to believe he would leave Chicago after his contract expired in 2014.

Ventura also played in the major leagues for 16 seasons, including the White Sox from 1989-98. He made two All-Star teams in 1992 and 2002. Ventura also played for the New York Mets, New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers before retiring from baseball in 2004, according to WashingtonPost.

Ventura will look to reward the White Sox front office's confidence by propelling the White Sox back into AL Central contention.
