In this episode of Pretty Little Liars the girls went black and white as Spencer experimented with her own new drug addiction. First, Hannah, Spencer, and Emily discuss whether or not they should reveal their fears and suspicions of Ezra to Aria. Conveniently in the classroom, they then find Ali’s long lost journal taken from Ezra’s secret cabin. Of course this can only mean one thing: Ezra is “A”… right?
The girls then see Mona sneak into the classroom and leave with a stack full of envelopes and files. Shauna has been missing for some time now and Aria still has not returned from her weekend away with the beloved Ezra. Spencer is still in investigation mode but has taken her “study aid” a little bit too far and seems quite obsessed, or rather, addicted to her constant consumption of the pill. As she takes one with what is presumed to be a few sips of alcohol, the sequence turns to the relevant black and white film playing on Spencer’s TV. From there on, the girls take on a new style in the roaring black and white style.
As Spencer adjusts to the new status, Toby emerges in a trench coat with hair slicked back in his old-fashioned attire. Fearing for Spencer’s compulsion, Toby attempts to confront her about it, however, she refuses to admit that her dependence upon the drug is more than just an excuse to keep the investing”A”tion going.
In an even stranger set of events, at the usual coffee shop, now turned into the stereotypical corner drug store, Spencer runs into Ezra where he disingenuously apologizes for their last conversation. Although the current conversation turned super award again super fast. The next scene gets more intense when Hannah is seen following Mona back to Ezra’s apartment where Spencer turns up once more. Ezra urges the girls to tell Aria who they suspect he is, however, the girls know that Ezra has Aria under his spell and they risk losing yet another friend.
The scene goes back to a painting of Ali where Spencer comes into contact with her where she asks about Ezra, however, comes to no solution as to whether or not the “Ezra Theory”, as I have officially named it, is in fact true. As Ali then washes Spencer’s pills down the drain, her hand is saved by Toby once more saves the day.
As the episode nears the end of the dramatized segment, this week’s best moment came as: the reunion. Upon entering the stage door of an intricate theatre all four of the girls found themselves reunited with Ali once more, as if it had been the “good” old days. Even though, in this episode it was the olden days! So anyways, the girls get into a verbal altercation with Ali before she tries to take a swing at Spencer. In the last minute the figure of a male appears, presumably Ezra, and tells Aria that all is well with him and not to listen to her friends. However, the male is revealed as Toby and the body of Ezra is laying unconscious on the ground following a brief altercation between the two of them. As the car full of passengers speed through the streets, the beaming glow of another headlight blinds the view and Spencer is back in her current day kitchen.
Spencer then takes the clue from Toby, “Look on the pages, not at the book” and makes a discovery to be revealed on the next episode. So I know I ask this question a lot but who is Ezra?! What will Aria do when she finds out all that her friends have found? Another recurring question is who is Ali so afraid of? Will Spencer break her new addiction? All (hopefully) to be revealed next episode!
