Dance Moms star, Abby Lee Miller, is being sued by cast member and dance mom Kelly Hyland.
Deadline reports that Hyland is suing both Miller and the producers of the Lifetime series, claiming Miller assaulted and defamed her.
The lawsuit claims that the producers purposely set up situations that lead to conflict in order to receive ratings.
"The producers of the show, in an effort to attract ratings and viewership, encourage and facilitate conflicts between Miller on the one hand and the young girl dancers and their mothers on the other," the claim states.
Hyland claims that Miller defamed her during interviews on shows like The View, by stating that Hyland was suspended from the show, though Hyland claims no notice had been given.
The incident that led to this lawsuit took place in November. The suit claims that Hyland acted in self-defense after Miller lunged at and appeared to try and bite her. Hyland slapped Miller's hand and pushed her head away to avoid getting bitten.
Hyland claims the shows producers wanted an arrest warrant mainly for "intensely dramatic television."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hyland's daughters, Brooke and Paige, are also a part of the lawsuit.
Hyland and her daughters were a part of the company before Dance Moms came about. Hyland brought up to producers that the show was having a negative effect on the kids. She tried to involve her attorneys but claims that since she was under contract, she would lose "everything she owned if she attempted to back out of the contract."
Hyland and her daughters did not participate in the recent season of Dance Moms, but was told to appear occasionally by producers, and did not receive compensation for their appearances.
Hyland is asking for $5 million in punitive damage including emotional distress, anxiety, humiliation and anguish.
