White Sox player Adam Dunn could be headed to the Academy Awards.
The all star athlete who is usually seen as a first baseman, outfielder, and designated hitter for the Chicago White Sox played a bartender in the movie, The Dallas Buyers Club. The departure from his average day’s work puts Dunn in an interesting position. This year, he gets to decide whether to accept an invitation to leave team practice to attend the Academy Awards.
It’s a rare opportunity when a leading sports figure can mix and mingle with Hollywood’s elite, but manager Robin Ventura says she has no problem with the star athlete missing a day.
According to the Associated Press, Ventura said, "It's a cool thing. That movie would not have been as good without him."
Dallas Buyers Club is nominated for six Oscars, including a nod for lead actor, Matthew McConaughey. Matthew McConaughey played Ron Woodroof, a Texas electrician in the film. The movie has been nominated for a stellar six Oscars.
The 86th Annual Academy Awards will be held on March 2 at the Dolby Theatre. They will be hosted by Ellen DeGeneres.
