Fans of Ripper Street can rejoice. The series, canceled by the BBC earlier this year, has been picked up by Amazon Prime Instant.
The drama set in the East End of London takes place in the wake of murders by Jack the Ripper. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the detective drama was a fan favorite, and was voted the best TV show of 2013 in the British magazine, Radio Times
The series was created by Richard Warlow. It is set in the Victorian era. It stars Matthew Macfayen, Jerome Flynn, and Adam Rothenberg. It aired on the BBC in England and in the United States on BBC America.
BBC canceled the show due to low ratings over two seasons. Fans spoke out and lead a campaign to support the show. Amazon Prime came to the rescue, and picked up distribution rights for the series.
According to the Associated Press, BBC’s Ben Stephenson said Wednesday that the deal was "an exceptional opportunity" to bring the show back.
Fans can watch the show on Amazon’s Prime Instant Video service and BBC television. Filming begins in May for Season Three.
