Amazon Studios announced this year’s slate of pilots, which will be available for free on Amazon Instant Video in the U.S. and LOVEFiLM in the U.K. There are 10 pilots, including two dramas. The web giant has recruited a collection of A-list minds to create these shows, which will get picked up to series based on viewer response.
Last year’s slate resulted in Garry Trudeau’s political comedy Alpha House getting a full season. The comedy Betas and childrens shows Creative Galaxy, Tumble Leaf and Annedroids also moved with additional episodes.
Roy Price, Director of Amazon Studios, said in a statement that last year’s slate was successful, as thousands of reviews came in during the first few days the pilots were available.
“We collaborated with some of the very best creators in Hollywood—and even some new comers that submitted their show through our open door process—to bring customers a wide array of top-quality shows,” Price said. “This season we have something for everyone with a mix of comedy, drama and kids programming—we can’t wait to hear what customers think.”
Here are the five new primetime pilots:
Bosch - based on Michael Connelly’s series; written by Connelly and The Wire’s Eric Overmyer; stars Titus Welliver
The After - written/directed by The X-Files’ Chris Carter and centers on eight strangers connected by mysterious forces
Mozart in the Jungle - written by regular Wes Anderson collaborators Roman Coppola and Jason Schwartzman, directed by About A Boy’s Paul Witz
Transparent - written by Six Feet Under’s Jill Soloway and stars Jeffrey Tambor
The Rebels - a sports comedy produced by Ice Cube and NFL Hall of Famer Michael Strahan
The five childrens pilots are Gortimer Gibbon’s Life on Normal Street; Hardboiled Eggheads; The Jo B. & G. Raff Show; Maker Shack Agency; and Wishenpoof!.
